2017 Chief Architect Design of the Year Contest Winners

Chief Architect Design of the Year Contest winners

Congratulations to the 2017 Chief Architect Design of the Year winners!

Throughout 2017, Chief Architect has held monthly design contests for our customers to showcase their work. Over 140 renderings were submitted into our Kitchen/Bath/Interiors, Residential, and Remodeling Design Contests.

Each month our Facebook fans were asked to vote for their favorite design. The winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) were entered into our year-end Design of the Year contest in December. Voting was open until January 9th and we are pleased to announce the winners!

  • Debra Purvis – Kitchen/Bath & Interiors Category
  • Jorge Arreola – Remodel/Addition Category
  • William Woody – Residential Category

Kitchen/Bath & Interior Catagory

Grand Winner – Debra Taylor Purvis of DesignHouseInc

She develops house plans and has been a Chief Architect customer for almost 20 years!

“The client wanted something unique with an “elegant rustic” feel. This bathroom includes a large rustic shower with extra shower fixtures, including a rain shower head keeps the space open with a tempered glass panel. The free-standing tub is placed at an angle for easier access to the shower and added visual interest. The client didn’t want a toilet closet so it is placed behind a wall for privacy. The beamed ceiling gives this room an extra accent. Stone, washed pebbles and old shiplap add to the rustic feel. Raised sink vanities, glass, large mirrors and a freestanding tub adds an elegant touch.”

Remodel/Addition Catagory

Grand Winner – Jorge Arreola of Greymark Construction Co.

“After meeting with the client, their need was to create an open kitchen without losing the definition between the kitchen and living area, while integrating with the original house. We created this kitchen concept by eliminating a wall, relocating the fridge and oven to a new cabinet wall, maintaining the areas definition with an island and a sitting area as an extension of this island with a wood countertop to tie with the existing wood floor. We also created a new arch access to match the existing on the formal dining and study areas.”

Residential Catagory

Grand Winner – William Woody of Hearthstone Log Homes

He’s in Newport, Tennessee and has eighteen years of design experience.  He’s been using Chief Architect since Chief Architect v6, but really dove in around Chief X2.

“This cabin is a stacked 6×12 log on log featuring two bedrooms, a large centered fireplace in the great room, an upstairs open loft, heavy timber beams, and heavy timber rafters. Finished with hand hewing, this rustic cabin will nestle in nicely in the Great Smoky Mountains, and look as if it has been there for over a century. Adorned with rounded cedar tree posts on the porches, this home will have wonderful mountain views from those porches, and be a relaxing place to sit and watch the sunset. This home is replacing one destroyed in the Cobbly Nob area, just outside of Gatlinburg, TN burned by the wildfire’s that ravaged the town late in 2016, transforming the landscape forever. The production and manufacture of this home has already begun as the rebuilding continues for one more of these homeowners.”
