ANSWER

You can specify a single roof plane to extend downward over an exterior bumpout using the "Extend Slope Downward" setting located on the Roof panel of the Wall Specification dialog.

It's important to be aware that for this setting to work correctly, the following requirements must be met:

  • The wall that is marked as "Extend Slope Downward" must connect to two perpendicular walls that are set as "Full Gable Walls".
  • The wall marked as "Extend Slope Downward" must be parallel to at least one wall up the roof slope, of which will determine the pitch and height of the roof.
  • If there are parallel walls on both sides of the wall marked as "Extend Slope Downward", and they are up the roof slope, they must be collinear to each other.

If one or more of these requirements are not met, you will be prompted with one of the following messages, along with the program circling the problem wall or area. Click OK on the message and define the roof directives in the walls to meet the requirements.

  • "#272009050 - A wall designated "extend slope downward" may not also be designated as a "full gable wall" or "high shed wall"."

  • "#272009051 / #272009052 - A wall designated "extend slope downward" must connect at each end to two perpendicular walls that extend from it in the up roof slope direction. Each of these walls must be designated a "full gable wall"."

  • "#272009053 - If a wall designated "extend slope downward" has a parallel wall positioned up the roof slope on both sides of it, these walls must be collinear."

  • "#272009054 - A wall designated "extend slope downward" must have a parallel wall up the roof slope that defines the roof pitch and height."
