Message: No layout view or file was found.

QUESTION

When I attempt to send a view to layout, I receive the following message:

• "#272012935 - No layout view or file was found. Would you like to create a new layout window and send this view to it?"

Why does this happen?

ANSWER

This message may appear in Chief Architect X11, Home Designer Pro 2020, and prior versions in the following circumstances:

• When you try to send a view to layout;
• No layout file is currently open; and
• The program is unable to find a layout file with the same name as the plan that you're trying to send a view from.

If you click Yes, the program will open a new layout file and automatically give this layout file the same name as the plan that you're trying to send a view to layout from.

If you have particular layout file that you want to send views to, you should instead click No. Then, select File> Open Layout  from the menu and open the layout in question. When the desired layout is open, you can send views to it.
